    Brand/ Maker: Aynsley England
    Year: 1924
    Dimensions: C: H 2.25" × 3.25" W
    S: 5.25"
    Materials: Bone China
    Repro / Original: Original
Misc: 'The Cup of Knowledge', Souvenir series, 'Wembley Exhibition, London' , Rd No. 702537.

The highly collectable 'Cup of Knowledge' cartomancy teacup is a devine piece of Art Deco décor, this unique yet simple print consists of purple, black & white blocked shaped colours, that sit adjacently around the gold gilted rims of both teacup and saucer. The interior of the cup depicts fortune telling symbols in the form of playing cards (Cartomancy). The Wembley version of 'The Cup of Knowledge' was sold during the Wembley Exhibition in London england, in 1924 & again in 1925's Wembley exhibition. Aynsley was one of six potters at the trade exhibition amoung such names as Grosovenor, Alfred Meakin, Booth's, Jackson & Gosling... ect, all inwhich created their own different version of this cup.
The COK usually was sold with an instruction booklet that outlined the game and symbolic meanings. [See my other posts on The Key to Diviation, 1924].
Furthermore, the Australian Pavillion during this time was also supplied with these fortune telling cups to be sold. I find that the Australian version is few and far between, they are certainly much harder to find compared to the Wembley & normally marked versions [View my Posts to see a Australian Pavillion cup].
