      DejaVu you're right, it's an unusual color glass for a couple reasons - the dark shading (they used to add black to glass animals yrs ago, maybe the added lead glass), and the tummy has that sfumato (feathering) technique, though it's basically a deep orange glass

      Scott, yes it does appear taller probably due to the raised base or 'pedestal' frequently used on Altaglass animals. They are also pretty weighty glass

      Phil it is quite a graceful penguin, with the open flippers it looks to be taking a bow! Altaglass made some lovely glass animals (the co. closed in '88) in great colors, I try to nab one whenever I can
