I purchased these two vases/bases yesterday at an antique store. I believe they started as vases but they were unfortunately drilled into the base and turned into lamps in the 30's or 40's. I've removed the lamps, as they were poorly done and unflattering. I saved the lamp pieces. One vase is slightly taller than the other, and the handles are slightly further apart on one, more so than the other. The taller of the two is 14.5" tall.
On the shorter vase, it looks like "BR" "3" "m" and a semi-circle incised on the bottom. The other vase is harder to read. Any info you could provide on these art nouveau pieces would be most appreciated! Thanks.
I'd say they are Secessionist and probably come from Austria.
They would date to the very early twentieth century.
I've got a feeling that the BR might in fact be a BB.
The BB could be for B Bloch & Co .
The company is called Eichwald and had several periods.
Have a check out at a very good site for this group of wares:

There could have been another central piece as well.
Love the colours! Love the whiplash decoration!
Wow! Thanks so much for that thoroughly informative comment. I've been digging all over the internet and I've been coming up empty. At least now I have a starting point. Thanks!
I'm sorry, vetraio50, but I just had to thank you again. Looks like your Bernard Bloch ID was right on the money. I would have never come up with that on my own. Thanks again!!
Beautiful!!
It's B. Bloch.
