I am trying to find some information about this table top cigar cutter. It is really interesting and I am guessing that it dates from the late 1800's. It is made by the Joseph P. Manning Co and reads POET across the top. It has an image of William Cullen Bryant on the front and reads "The Marksman Cigar" on either side. It has a glass piece that covers the working parts of the cutter and it sits on a wooden base with a reservoir that the cut ends fall into that you empty on the bottom. Please let me know if you have any information on this piece. Thanks!

Located in Haverhill, Mass., the Birthplace was home to Quaker poet and abolitionist John Greenleaf Whittier for nearly 30 years. The Birthplace is the setting ....This is the poet on the cutter....why he's associated with cigar, I don't know.... They made some other models of Poet cutter's also. real cool and not cheap in good shape....google him and find out more....good luck

    Hi Chris,

The text reads William Cullen Bryant under the photo. It's in nice shape and beautifully distressed with no chips. I wasn't sure what it would be worth as I can't find anything like it. Let me know if you have any more ideas thanks! J
