White sewing machine in the fancier cabinet with the manual, key, bobbins and accessories in the metal box. I found 2 numbers. One looks like a serial number on the machine (FR2343634) and the other just below the ruler embedded into the cabinet in front of the machine (PAT. SEP '87). The whole unit is in beautiful condition. Not looking to sell; just wondering approximate year and value.

Hi, I have the exact sewing machine. My parents had an antique dealer look at it around 20 years ago. He said the number on the ruler was the year 1887. But like the lady above said, everything I can find says they were not made that early. I don't want to sell either but I would love more information.

    BrentWN5 ....
The date on the ruler is a patent date. The patent is not for the whole machine but for one piece and possible one aspect of that one piece.

    http://www.google.com/patents?id=qspUAAAAEBAJ&pg=PA1&dq=white+sewing+machine&source=gbs_selected_pages&cad=1#v=onepage&q=white%20sewing%20machine&f=false

This is a sewing machine patent held by White in Dec. 1881 (acquired from another man). That patent date could appear on any of White's machines that was produced any time after that. Of course the date would indicate that it was not made before that date, but, it could have been made anytime after that date, including yesterday.
