This tiger was the representative for an oil/petrol company. I remember the commericials on TV when I was a kid. I belive the motto was "Put a tiger in your tank." Sorry that's all I know.
I love the sign. my dad owned an exxon gas station so naturaly i worked there for many years. i dont remember ever seeing this sign before. looking at it closely, looks like it would have fit over the gas pumps we had during the late 60's early 70's. thanks for posting
In the 60s and 70s the gas company Esso used these signs. I found a similar one for sale on the internet, and it can be viewed here:

Pictured in above link is the opposite side of the sign. The example in that link is double-sided.
I love this as my uncle had a Esso station in WV. That would be our first stop. There was a wooden bench outside where the old men would hang out and talk. Inside was another bench and a ice cream freezer and lots of free candy for us kids.
I BELIVE THIS WAS A LOGO FOR ESSO OR HUMBLE OIL.I REMBER THE ADDS ON TV WHEN I WAS YOUNG IN THE EARLY 60s.
All I know is that I want this on my garage wall.
Tell him vontrike you will even trade your mother law.Maybe that will seal the trade? HaHa
