Dakota pocket watch

I've had this watch for years, my Dad got it from somewhere. It doesn't work and has a crack on the face and it does have a chain with it. Other then the Dakota name, I've no idea the year it was made or possible value this watch has. It does have in small letters on the botton "Japan movt". The back has a nice design on it with the train, not sure of the meaning of the quarter moon and star. Look familiar to anyone here?
