I found this at a thrift store. I didn't know what it was but bought it for my kids to play with. I just happened across one today on ebay. Wondering if anyone knows anything more specific about it.

This is definitely a traditional kokeshi doll. With a lot of them you can move their heads a little (left & right) which makes a "crying" sound. You can find out which area it's originally from by the use of colour & type of flowers etc. I have a Naruko kokeshi, which seems quite similar to this, so I'm guessing that's what yours is too. The marks on the bottom will be the artist's signature & date.
