Trying to identify my clock in New Zealand.

Passed down from family. No idea which country it came from but not New Zealand. It is a cast clock. No marking on movement but has patent number on back plate May 6 1896, Jan 13 1891 and also Dec 23 1890. Clock not working. Any information appreciated thanks.
