This was the label on this item when I found it in a small shop way out in the middle of nowhere about 15 or so years ago. It looks pretty old and the scrimshaw ship and birds are done by a masterful artist. Can anyone tell me anthing else about this item????

It looks like a modern piece that has been artifially aged.
The blow up of photo #1 shows poor detailing and many areas where the ink is missing and clean "ivory" beneath.

Do a search for fakeshaw and you will find lots of interesting reading. Most of the fakeshaw is actually resin of one kind or another. One company that makes it is Artek. They pump it out and local people take it home and paint it as a part time job where they get paid piecework.
Thanks for your information. I will check it out!!
