William Gary received a patent on Aug 13, 1889 for a coin operated to work with a telephone. He formed the Gary Telephone and Pay Station Co which held a monopoly on pay stations well into the 20th century. Gary Co was acquired by Automatic Electric Company the manufacturing arm of General Telephone Company. The Silver Dollar payphone was manufactured around 1904 to the late teens. the photo is a walnut Gray number 3 wall cabinet with a Western Electric type 68 bell box.
