This is a sword that we picked up from a nice elderly couple who were having an Estate sale in there home. They purchased the sword in France in 1971 from an antique store in Carcassonne. Any help given would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going to take a guess at this, since nobody else has posted an opinion. It's just a guess, but might be the direction to go for further investigation. I think it's a court sword or small sword from the early part of the French Third Republic. This style is reminds me of the French Second Empire, but the use of the Gallic cockerel (rooster) instead of an Eagle makes me think it was after the second empire, which ended in 1870.

Oh, I just noticed you thought circa 1750 in your title. I feel you can definitely rule that out, because of the scroll that says "La Charte" - That almost certainly refers to the Charter of 1814, which recognized all Frenchmen as equal before the law, so for sure after that date.
