I hope somebody would be willing to identify this piece that I recently acquired from a garage sale. I'd love to know what kind of carving this is.
Thanks in advance!

Mystery Solved

Hi bewise, The Japanese shichi (seven) fuku (luck) jin (beings) have been a popular group of deities since the Edo period. Pictures and sculptures of these gods are seen all over Japan, either alone or as a group, and often on their treasure ship (takara-bune). Each lucky god (fukunokami) is attributed with distinctive characteristics. Google 'Seven Lucky Gods' for more. Often seen in celluloid on their ship, wood is much more rare. That is an outstanding piece you have. Regards, Jim

    Hi, Jim!

Thank you very much, that was very helpful. I was hoping I made a good pick on this one. Thanks again.
