Thanks so much for going through the effort of posting these!
The medals of the various kingdoms, duchies, city states, etc. of the German Empire have always had an attraction for me, but I don’t have a good single reference work for them - any suggestions?
If you can read German I would say two books. The modern reprint of Hessenthal and Schreiber which can be found on ebay and on some dealer lists or at shows and the Orden & Ehrenzeichen book by Nimmergut. For starters check out the Wehrmacht Awards site which has a good Imperial era section.
May I ask whose profile is on the obverse of this medal, please? Thank you, sir - another very fine series!
Thanks. Good question miKKo, that is Grand Duke Wilhelm Ernst who reigned from 1901-1918. He abdicated as did all the rest of the German rulers at the end of WWI.
