These are extremely heavy and unusual and early for his work. I think that it's an ethnic piece. it's signed 'V. Bergeron 1925'. Vic Bergeron was the owner of the famous 'Trader Vic's' restaurant here in Oakland. I don't know much about him or the piece. i recognize some of the costumes as being from pre-colombian pieces i've seen. After reading about him, i remembered that he is the artist who made my crackle glazed polar bear.

i forgot to mention that the artist, Vic Bergeron is accredited w/ starting the whole 'Tiki' style / art bar movement and he invented the Mai Tai. This piece is kind of a precursor to that whole thing. he started his first bar / restaurant in 1934 - 9 years after he made this piece. the chain restaurant 'Trader Vic's' was wildly successful and he got very wealthy.
