Founded in 1969, the Kansas City Royals are obviously not as storied a team as the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, or San Francisco Giants, but their short history included a remarkable player named George Brett, who joined the team in 1973 and played his entire 21-season career there. Thanks in no small part to Brett’s .305 lifetime batting average and more than 3,000 career hits, the Royals got into their first World Series in 1980 and won the championship in 1985, beating the St. Louis Cardinals four games to three.
