This one walked in the shop the other day in the hands of a guy who claimed he used to wear it for his job, but it's in such great shape that I suspect it's a reproduction piece.
I do like it, though, so I put it in the collection, rather than out on the floor. There are very few oil related pieces in my personal collection, but this one spoke to me for some reason.
I doubt it is a repro,They tend to do that to items with more interest,(rare/odd) don't get me wrong ,I love it! They would more likely repro a sign.
These were handed out(probably many at a time) to the stations by the oil dealers,and I am sure they gave more than a few away that never got used(like this one)I mean ,I doubt ,they grabbed a new one every day/week/month when they came to work!Thanks for posting!
Honestly, I hadn't even thought of that. I actually wouldn't mind getting a used one. It would have more of a story than an unused hat, but it's still pretty neat.
