In 2008, I waged a spiritual battle. I had just opened a physical antique and design shop, building it from less than zero money and energy, alone...lies, deceit, thievery, and health all played out their tiny little tunes upon my life. The doors closed less than 3 weeks after they opened, all in part to those manipulators of facts.
By Sept of 2009, they had all but drained me in every way.
This collection was the only factor that kept me sane, kept me able to change what seemed a lost destiny, and helped to heal me mentally, physically, and Spiritually.
I stayed in the desert outside of Quartzite, Arizona for 6 weeks. That was where I found the coffee pot, the dead cactus, and the rocks in top...amongst a lot of other Beauty, and quite a bit of real ugly.
During my drive home, I decided to go out of my way and see the Painted Desert, and The Petrified Forest...not in that order
The Painted Desert is Beauty to behold, with its fallen and standing petrified stumps and trees abounding. I went through the National Forest there, and I knew I had to find a way to keep part of this Beauty with me. I drove for hours on end, looking for any way to hunt even the tiniest section of land. I found my op in an open area dry creek bed, walked it slowly, methodically, and in peaceful thought. I found these pieces mostly buried there. They are now part of my joys and memories.
I knew that I could "buy" any amount of this beautiful, multi-colored fossil wood, and so many did catch my attention...blacks, reds, whites, oranges, even blues and greens...so many more colors, and so many sizes...but they would just be minor gifts to myself.
At The Painted Desert, I also felt and saw great Beauty, found an open place to walk, and discovered that any Native or Cowboy would soon tucker out walking this extremely fine sands (baked hard together by the sun, bt still giving way deeply to each footstep. I found some interesting rocks, one nice fossilized wood, and came home more healed and healthy than I had ever felt...enough so as to beat to haides what others were still attempting to press me into.
Collection 2, and the story of the lost penny, next
where the heck does one post fossils??????
