This is a $2.50 Gaming Chip from Playboy Hotel-Casino in Atlantic City, NJ - Circa 1981-1984 - White print (including bunnies) on pink and white ring background - center is a copper-nickel alloy metal. Both obverse & reverse are identical but shown for reference. - Excellent condition.
---
Playboy Casino was built in 1981 but suffered financial difficulties from the start. In 1984 it was renamed the Atlantis Hotel & Casino but went bankrupt in 1985. It was purchased by Donald Trump in 1989, who closed the casino and operated the property solely as a hotel named the Trump Regency. Trump reopened the casino in 1996 as the World's Fair at Trump Plaza, but after 3 years of failure the building was closed and demolished. There is currently a parking lot on the site. - Once sold for between $75-$80, the value of this chip plummeted in 2008 after a hoard was discovered in Mississippi. Shipped to that state for destruction in 1984, the chips had instead been buried and covered with concrete; later unearthed during a construction project. - Chip# PB-2.5

the buried-under-concrete part is definately what makes this chip more memorable than its current price. it is funny how casino history has moved from metal-insert chips like this to online names, where sites like https://rodeoslot-polska.com/ and https://wild-winz.pl/ are built around particular slot games, while https://sierra-kasyno.com/ and https://lola-jack-kasyno.com/ are more about casino listings for polish players. for the playboy chip itself, i would still value the backstory almost as much as the condition, especially with such a short-lived atlantic city property behind it.
