Vintage Purse

I bought this purse about 10 years ago. It is vintage and in need of some love. I took it to a leather worker to have the strap restored and he refused stating it was a Gucci and I would need to go to someone who had more experience with this type of restoration. Since it has no markings aside from the "Rome" on the snaps, I did not take him seriously. My understanding is that Gucci has always labeled their purses in some way or another. The purse is well made but, due to worry about the strap not holding up it has been in a box since. Anyone have any knowledge of who might have made this or how I can find out?
