    Hi All,
I think this item has something to do with tobacco, cigars, pipes or cigarettes, as it has the smell of tobacco inside of it. It is one of the strangest items I've seen in a while. It made of wood and has carved faces on the outside and the inside. If anyone can shed any light on what this actually is, it would solve a long held mystery for me. Thank you for any and all suggestions.

    regards ross

PS: even my cat wants to know what it is?

it is really interesting. i'd guess that it's a blackforest humidor - a really good one. the faces are very interesting - gnome-like. i love it!

The caricature looks like Fagin. Possibly made during the rise of Judenhass (Antisemitism) 1880-1910 and it maybe pyrography a home craft that was popular during the same period. Very curious piece.
