Silver & Marcasite Earring (single)

This is a single post earring in an oval circle, almost horseshoe shape -- It has 26 small, faceted stones placed around it that make it sparkle when you move it around (is that marcasite?) - The ear post back is stamped with what looks like 986 and some other marks that I cannot identify.
