Got this heavy metal clock from a local barn. It reads Waterbury Clock Company Waterbury, CT Patented Nov 1881 (I think that is the number.) It has a wood bottom with a piece of paper glued to it that reads 45. The unusual thing about this clock is to get to the mechanical part of the clock, you remove a circular metal plate. The plate looks like it has an old Mobil logo on it. I can't find any information on this clock. I am hoping you can help me.

    Thank you.

You don't show the entire case so I can't be entirely certain.

It looks like you may have an altered Waterbury enameled iron case mantel clock called the "Ural", circa 1891. If so, it should be all black enamel paint over a cast iron case with intricate decorative scrolls and column-like patterns over the recessed vertical surfaces on both sides of the dials.

For some reason, someone may have painted over part of this clock case with "Gel Stain" or some other faux wood colored finish.

The Ural measures approximately 10 3/4 inches high by 12 3/4 inches wide. If those are your clock's greatest height and width measurements (within let's say 1/2") the Ural is probably what you have.

Unfortunately, I can not locate an online photo of this model for you to compare it too. If you add a couple of well-lit photos of the entire case, especially the top I could be more certain.

As a collector, I really hate it when a clock's original appearance has been completely altered. It can make identifying the clock extremely difficult and time consuming plus it usually has a very negative effect on the value of the clock regardless of how well it may have been done.

That being said, your clock doesn't look bad, it's just nowhere near original. Enjoy it for what it is.

      Best regards,

      Bruce99
