As an avid collector of vintage jewelry I have become very interested in southwest jewelry and art. This wonderful lamp was found in a second hand store a few days ago and I had to have it. Unsure if it's navajo or not? Or Zuni? I'm a novice in this area so I know enough to be dangerous but it clearly appears vintage and is raised sand art. The lamp is approximately 15 inches tall and 12 inches at it's widest point.

I have tried to find a similar hanging lamps on the web the last few days without success. I did find a few much newer ones, and one older version which was adertised as navajo in an art gallery however none of these were two piece lamps like this one where the bottom bell area is attached with laced leather.

Can anyone tell me what I have and its approximate time period? I am thinking 60's or 70's? Is the blue coloring rare? Of the ones I did find none were as vibrant as this which makes me think this is a bit more rare in design? Thanks in advance!!

This is a "Southwest Style" decorator item, not Native American. So it can't be called either Navajo or Zuni, although the imagery appears to be based on Navajo sand painting designs. Pottery decorated with sand painting designs first started appearing on the market in the 1980's. Turquoise has always been one of the most popular colors used in Southwest decorating schemes.
