That would be imperial gals.. If the 50 imp. gal. drum, they are in demand for making steel drums as the U.S. barrels are made of too thin a steel.

Early to mid 1950s The logo design is one that is know as the bowtie. Your drum is exceptionally nice with excellent patina

      Watson,
Great pic of the manufacturer marks. The trinomial 20-12.5-52 is an industry standard required by the shipping industry regulators that identifies the steel gauge (20), the volume of the drum (12.5 gals) and the year the drum (1952) was manufactured by Rheemaust. I study mostly US drum manufacturers so I do not know particulars about Rheemaust, but Rheem Manufacturing Co. in the US was the largest manufacturer of drums in the US after WWII and up to 1985 when they stopped US production of drums. Rheem also had international companies by 1950 so Rheemaust may likely be an Australian drum co.

Dear Mr. Watson, I´m a automobile-journalist in munich/germany and I just work on a broschure to the engine oil topic. Can I use our fotograph in this publication - of course I indicate the source. I´ll send you one exemplar, too.

Thank you very much for your positive reply.
