Box measures 6 1/2" by 3 1/2" by 3 1/2" and weighs about 3 lbs.
It appears to be made of oak and has what appears to be filled with a black substance...

This is an ignition coil for a one cylinder engine. From the teens or twenties.
It is an ignition coil for an old engine. Model T Fords had something very similar.
