(1 item)

My husband found this item in a barn that we purchased several years ago. He brought it home, because it looked like an interesting item. It is displayed on our back porch. It has become a conversation piece in our home, because no one knows what it is. I would like to finally solve the mystery. By the way, the word ELARCO is raised on the base.

that is a scale that has mother of peral base's on it, i know that it cant say how much the item you put on it weighs because this one show which item is heavyier. I dont know its age but its old i can tell you that. but i would value this at $100-$200.

The round portion of this item spins with ease. Additionally, it appears as though whatever is placed on the disk can be secured by three movable parts. The rectangular piece can tip up and down, and be lowered or raised. It appears it can be secured into place by the two bolts you see in the picture. I thought this was some sort of sculpting utensil. Your suggestion of a scale is an interesting one. Do you know where I may find information regarding this piece? Thanks for the feedback.

Well, it's not a scale. The Elarco company made clothes irons, so maybe this has something to do with clothes or iron making. I really can't tell you anything other than that. Good luck in your search to find the answer!

I've done a general search for Elarco online, but have found nothing. I would certainly appreciate anyone who may have a link to aid in my quest. The plot thickens....Fun! Although, I hope I am not disappointed when the mystery is solved. We have enjoyed guessing its purpose.

I can't find anything about Elarco either.... but, there is a city in Mexico named El Arco..... perhaps the name of the city where this piece was made is on it. Just a thought.

Here is an iron with Elarco on it.

I found the iron on ebay, but I am at a standstill now. Ifeel like this is a tool of some sort, but I've had no luck finding a picture. Perhaps this is a rare treasure...

I have seen one of these before, but I couldn't tell you where or when if you said my life depended on it. I've been wracking my brain, but to no avail.

I wish you would find out because I have one out in the shed ! Actually I thought it might have to do with pottery ? You could put green pottery on the round table and hold a carving tool on the inclined section to form rings on the piece of pottery ? I'm just saying...

Absolutely! I have long thought the very same thing. We must have the only two left!

Tempted to pay for an answer, but this is more fun. I hope someone on this site eventually sees my pic and has a wonderfully unique explanation for this piece.

Your item is a "Self Centering Banding Wheel."
It is used to apply bands of color or gold on round vases or other objects. If you Google "Elarco Self Centering Banding Wheel" you will find an advertisment showing the gadget. Earlier versions then what you have, do have a wooden platform to rest your arm on while applying the decorative bands.
I have been buying and selling early artifacts of technologie and pritty much know what is out there...
Hope this helps and solves the mistery...
