    Just adding some more pictures of Hilroy notebooks /scribblers from 1939-1940's . Like the V flying from the flag above Churchill's famous look a like and mannerisms breed the English Bulldog.

      Another great post. I like the small touches, like the dog's paws overlapping the frame, Added to the V-formation and ships in the background, the image has a great feeling of depth.

      I also have to smile at the comparison of defeat of the Spanish Armada with Jutland. There will always be an England, but the era of fleet size ship-to-ship clashes ended a couple decades before this art was produced.

      Yes and the dog just might be drifting on a raft!! They make sure we see the V's in each corner too. Am I seeing things or is the middle of the dog's forehead depicting a man in a tophat.

      I think the man in a top hat looks more like a cowboy, and he's wearing chaps!
      It still works with the Churchill connection, because after all, Winston's mother was American :)
