This sat on a shelf in my grandmothers house for as long as anyone can remember and in photos from the late 40's. It may have been there a long time then, we really don't know. She said it was an "Indian vase" and was special - maybe just special to her because she knew folks who traveled and it was likely a gift. But unfortunately no one asked and she died over 30 years ago.
It is about 8" tall, 6" wide, the opening is about 4". Inside is rough, light colored clay. Outside painted, some parts have what looks like a rubbed glaze. It shows age but is in pretty good shape, no cracks or anything. No markings on bottom.
I'd love to know if anyone can tell me where it might have come from or who may have made it.

This is Mexican, not Indian, from Tonala. It dates circa 1930's-1940's. This style is usually called "opaque Tonala" ware, and was made for only a relatively short period. It was a popular type of souvenir pottery, made for the tourist trade.
