Roseville Stoneware Lipped Baby’s Plate

Funny how some people fail to see the value in things they’ve had for many years, and this is a case in point. I saw this in with things my mother was giving away to the thrift store. The conversation went like this:

“Umm, mom…isn’t that your baby plate?”

“Yes, yes it is. My mother kept it all these years. I can’t use it.”

“Umm…it wasn't new when grandma got it for you, was it?”

“Oh no, it was given to her by Mrs. Moye, our neighbor. Her daughter had grown up and moved away by then.”

“Ok, mom, so you are 85 years old now, and Mrs. Moy’s daughter must have been at least 15 when she moved out….”

“OH MY GOSH, IT’S A HUNDRED YEARS OLD!”

Now it’s displayed in the china cabinet.

A bit of research shows this pattern as Roseville, and similar ones were made in the 1920s, though I believe this one might date to the 1910s, based on the family story. It’s not in my usual field of interest, but I have to say I love the whimsical look of this.
