I don't know if this is Japanese or Chinese or something else. There are 2 sides with 7 women and designs on each that look about the same.

It looks like there's a red bunny or rat stamp on one side of the 7 Geisha women and another snake or something stamp above that. It looks like it is hand painted gold and blue/white dots over a transfer pattern? It's about 4 inches tall and shaped like an egg.

I think there are some green and red Kanji characters on the bottom but I can't make them out and I see red number 15 in a circle. There is a crackle like glaze. It was my mom's and don't know if it's for the thrift store pile or if it's worth saving. Any thoughts?

I’ve seen some listed as Satsuma, but were actually made in China, not Japan. They seem to vary a lot in quality, and usually have a wooden stand, which would explain the glue on the base of your piece. Yours appears to be a better quality with the moriage, or raised relief details in gold. If you can try and get a closer pic of the red Asian characters at the top left of the number 15 in the last photo

Thanks for the info! I can't get a better photo due to both the dark day and bad camera, plus the red mark is faded and unfocused itself. The thing that most intrigues me is the red stamp to the right of the Geisha, which I now realize is a cat reaching up to play with a string (3rd photo). It's like a tiny hidden message and I find it amusing. But I probably will put this in the thrift store pile anyway, since I don't have a place for little chatchkes.
