This is a step away from what I usually post but some other items we collect are Akro Agate glass and Westite glass.

    Westite’s # 300 Flower Pots
( The Westite Magnum Connection )

One of the most interesting things about collecting glass is that I am always learning something new. As I learn more about collecting Akro Agate, Westite, etc. I find out there is so much to learn about in terms of their back stories, the different distributers and marketing companies that were also involved in the process of making and selling this unique glass and how different things came about.
One story that I recently discovered, came about by purchasing what was a pot made by Westite but had a different company name embossed on the bottom. When I first saw this, it appeared to be the typical Westite “Bowtie” outline but had the name “Magnum” inside of it instead of Westite, and above that there is the letter “A” and below has the word “Product”, so in total it says “A Magnum Product”.
Who was Magnum and where were they from? Were they a glass company that purchased a mould once used by Westite? Did Westite agree to make the pots for them and then be sold under the Magnum name? I did some checking around and asking various people if they ever heard of Magnum and who were they? Some people heard of the company but did not know anything about them except of an occasional pot that showed up with their name on it.
I continued to check around and ask other collectors and found my answer when I spoke with Ron Jones. He had explained to me that Magnum was a marketing company of many different products. They contracted with Westite to make these pots for them as part of a novelty lamp.
The small lamp consisted of a small plant like figure and they used fish scales for the leaves! I would suspect that the reasoning for the fish scales was that they may give off an iridescent glow when lit. There was a small bulb within the pot that lit the plant. The pot, being a slag glass gave the look of a marble pot.

The pots for this lamp have only been found in one size to my knowledge and that was Westites #300 size pot (or 3inch wide opening). From what I understand that most of the #300 pots are unmarked however I don’t know that for sure. As far as the two different LOGOs, Im not sure what there are more of out there, but with my limited experience, I would suspect there is more of the Westite LOGO.

The interesting thing is that some collectors aren't aware of these Magnum pots and I believe it’s a bit of a challenge finding them. Should anyone have any other additional information concerning these pieces please let me know so it may be passed on.
