I have a collection of railroad tools, of which I am showing some of the more impressive pieces. From top to bottom, we have a Norfolk & Western open end wrench, a Philadelphia & Reading (Reading) open end wrench, and a great adjustable wrench from the Pennsylvania Railroad. An interesting story concerns the PRR wrench. About 10 years ago I needed to put a new boiler in my house. My plumber, also a railfan, put down his modern adjustable wrench and used the PRR to tighten all of the steam pipe connections. The PRR wrench did its job once again.
I worked on Railway car wagons (UK) in the 70s. I was an apprentice and we had Drawbars to replace or repair (The part that connects two wagons or car together). The spanner was taller than me and I'm 5ft 4". We also had a forming sledge hammer called the Monday Hammer. It was 32 pounds and if you used it on a Monday, you would be too exhausted to use it on a Tuesday!
