fire extinguishers

I am very keen to learn more about them.
the empire example is dated 1920 but i do not know the date of the Simplex.
are the terms simplex and empire references to the contents of the extinguishers?
and how rare are they?

they measure just under 22" in height.

any information on them or the companies that made them would be appreciated.
