Oriental Figurine Lamp. No one knows what it is.

My grandmother was ask to hold this for safekeeping. Can anyone help us identify it. It has a brass base and stem similar to lamps in the 1930's. The figure has a name in the ceramic, as you can see in the picture. We can find no makers mark or name. The figure is 22" high, the top of the lamp fineal is 36". He is a big boy with no cracks or chips. Has anyone ever seen one like this? We'd like to know where he came from. (the orient, Italy, New Jersey) Most all the lamps we own are vintage, and we know about them except for this one. We call him LOU.
