I do not a thing about it , only that it is all steel with hinged flaps that would cover your ears and whatever was under the flap

It's a WWII American bomber crew helmet.
Yes, an anti-flak helmet for aircrew men. They had a felt 'frock' paint job on the exterior to keep them from frosting up at altitude. Earlier helmets had a distinct teardrop shape to the earflaps and later ones were cloth,and even leather covered.
Very nice condition with all the webbing and straps!
