Chess set identification?

Hi, I'm not really looking for an appraisal and not trying to sell, I'm just wondering if anyone has seen these chess pieces before and can shed some light about their origin. The board has a made in USSR sticker inside, yet the pieces that came with the board appear to be asian. The pieces look handmade, in nice condition and have a clear coat. The board itself definitely has some wear. It seems to me the board and the pieces are unrelated, but if anyone has any ideas it would be great. I've searched the web and auction sites to try and find these pieces, but so far I have not come up with a match. No idea if these are just nice mass-produced items or something more... Thanks!
