Caboose Lantern?

I picked up this brass lantern at a Flea Market, and was told by the seller that it is a train lantern from the early 1900‘s. Another person (who is a train lantern collector), told me that it was a caboose lantern that was used by a train person (don't know the train person's official title), to illuminate the train at night so that he could perform a safety inspection.

If anyone has any information about this lantern, I would appreciate learning more about it, and what it's value is. I looked on Ebay and Google Images, and found plenty of images of other lanterns, but nothing identical to mine.
