I have several pieces that are shapes Thorpe used and they have nice wide silvery bands but the bands are not Sterling Silver but rather something that looks almost black and shiny and doesn't react to any silver polish I've tried.

What is this blackish stuff and did Thorpe ever use it or are my pieces knock-offs?

Are these what they call Mercury Glass ?
    2. dubois1726, 10 years ago
That is what I had thought but when I looked up the term, I didn't find any mention of this type of decoration—just to older meaning of glass silvered by trapping mercury between layers of glass.

Terrible thing when you find you don't know what you thought you knew.

On the bottom of the first pic is there anything there? I had some that libbey glass had made, they were Roly Poly ones. See IF I can find the pic of them
