I've got a box camera that at first glance looks like any large, Kodak box camera from the early 1900s. However, upon a closer look, you'll notice it's a dry plate camera, not a rolled film camera. But here's the unique thing: It has a neat flip-up panel on the side that allows exposed plates to drop in, then can be slid toward the back to drop the exposed plate into a holding rack for developing later.
There are no longer visible markings anywhere. Can anyone help me identify this camera?
I've been traveling and finally got around to looking at this listing. This is a Rex Magazine Camera made by the Rex Magazine Camera Company (Chicago, IL). Interestingly, the factory was in St. Paul, MN. It dates to c.1897-99 (or so) and was made in three formats: 4x5, 3-1/4 x 4-1/4 and 2x2 inch. Price was $9.00. Overall, an uncommon and novel camera.
