Thus appears to be solid brass. Feels like 5 or 6 pounds. Unreliable source says it's from an old Italian church. Does anyone know anything? I cannot locate any markings.

Maybe they are not doorknobs. A lot of these were also used as Finials, sometimes in churches and also for large curtains.

At the top, near top right there is a "post an item" where you can "search" for almost anything. You will find others who posted doorknobs that were large and had no idea what they were from. I have a couple of these that did come from a church and I use them now as a type of finial. They are much lighter so do not know what they were screwed into. Phil.
