J Davidson Oil Painting....who is??

I have this beautiful oil painting signed by J Davidson that I would love to know more about. I have done research and believe it is from the 1800s but am not sure. It is large 4'x 2' approximately and is canvas stretched directly on hand built wooden frame. Only J Davidsons I have found one is a sculptor - the other appears to only paint nautical based. Any info, help, and information would be appreciated. Thank you!
