I'm not sure if Lane hope chests belong here, but I'll do it anyway. I picked this up the other day because I think it's pretty awesome. I love the look and have the perfect pole lamp to set beside it so I view both from my chair! It's a 1957 in good condition overall - other than the clamp marks shown in the picture and the finish is flaking off in spots. I gave it a good cleaning and plan to lightly sand, then shellac. Is this a bad idea? If I don't use shellac, what should I use? I plan to use it as a TV stand, but want it to look nice. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Wow, it's beautiful! If it were me, I'd do as little as I could get away with. It was likely shellac so maybe stick with that. Good luck, it's a lovely piece.
