Wooden Buddha maybe Teaching? Is it actually a Buddha or a philosopher? Vintage or older? From dark chunk of wood. Stands about 18" tall, across bottom 8". Am I even close on this piece?

I think a Chinese Buddhist Goddess rather than a God, Guanyin, is one of the spellings of her name.

Looking at images of Guanyin and not seeing the scroll in the hand of the statues, are there variations of the traditional vase. The use of wood...not the normal medium making the base of statue 8" across and heavy. Any ideas about this? Is this boxwood?
