Very rare Estonian Government in exile issued temporary passport for Estonian national who served in the NS Kreigsmarine as a junior officer 1942-45. Returning to Soviet occupied Estonia was not an option. He acquired passport in New York in 1948 used to emigrate to Sweden via UK, Hamburg BRD, and cross into Sweden with his wife and two children. Unknown how he got to NYC to obtain the document. Pictured are the travel visas and his Kreigsmarine Soldbuch. Unusual to see...would have been imprisoned or executed if sent back to the Soviet occupied area as many former Baltic nationals were subjected to after the war.
