I love antiques with a story. This Staffordshire goat figurine was previously owned by Elinor Kaine Penna, a pioneering female sportswriter. She made an appearance on the game shows "To Tell the Truth "and "What's My Line" in the 1960s.
3rd photo shows sticker from Penna auction. 4th photo shows goat at Penna auction.
From the internet:
...From 1969-1971 she did the Sunday Pre-Game show before NFL games on CBS with Pat Summerall and Jack Whitaker.
Most famous for not getting into the Yale Bowl press box on August 18, 1969 at the New York Jets 37-14 exhibition victory over the NY Giants. Miss Kaine went to court before officials would allow her to cover the game from the press box with 356 male writers and broadcasters. Yale granted permission, but when Miss Kaine arrived, she was seated in an auxiliary lower section. The picture of her press box rejection was circulated in newspapers all over the world, and she was quoted as saying, "A lot of men came down at halftime to say hello.".
One of the first female sportswriters to cover pro-football in the 1960s.
Wrote a book on football, and racing columns for the Morning Telegraph, Daily Racing Form, and Miami Herald.
Married to Angel Penna
From the internet:
Angel A. Penna Sr. (September 30, 1923 – January 15, 1992) was an Argentine-born U. S. Racing Hall of Fame Thoroughbred horse trainer. Penna was an international trainer who worked and raced on three continents. He conditioned more than 250 graded stakes race winners during a career that began in 1950 and lasted for more than forty years.
