A letter opener carved from ebony wood with a depiction of Kwame Nkrumah, the first prime minister and president of Ghana. In 1957 Ghana launched its first shipping company, the Black Star Line. It was named after an American company by Marcus Garvey to promote black economic advancement and encourage black immigration to Africa.
A letter opener exactly like this one can be seen in Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture carved from ebony wood with a depiction of Kwame Nkrumah at the end was crafted for the Black Star Line,
Description
A letter opener carved from ebony wood with a depiction of Kwame Nkrumah at the figurehead terminal and a long, tapered blade with a warm patina. Imprinted into the proper right side of the blade are the words [SHIP WITH BLACK STAR LINE].
