This is a Val Saint Lambert Vase I found in charity shop in Edinburgh. The foil label has been lost but I know it had one. All that is left is the inscription 'studio crystal' AT HH/ 1995. I remember a few years back when I was looking for info, I did come across a page that mentioned that HH was a visiting Japanese designer. I have been unable to find that reference again so I would be grateful if anyone can help. It is a lovely piece of glass, standing about 30cm(12" tall and runs from clear to amber/olive colour glass. It is too big for display so I would like to know more before 'recycling' it :). Any information about the designer or the range would be helpful. Thank you

Yes, it certainly was. I saw this page and I am certain they are speaking of cur crystal only. Val St Lambert has gone through all sorts of changes and problems over the years and has been propped up by the Belgian government. There is not much detail about the free form stuff they make. If you look at some of the vases for sale on ebay they are similar in colour and form in the olive/amber and amethyst colour. That is why I am finding it difficult. The label was a black oblong.

      Hi Frankieboy!
Signatures are a consistent problem, no? Can I play the devil's advocate? Perhaps your reading of the signature is incorrect? The signature is in French, non?
I see Studio Cristal. This is the usual signature for the studio piecs at VSL and without a 'y'.
My reading of the letters is different to yours. I see AC followed by n n.
The photo is not totally clear to me. Even the date seems a little iffy. 1995 is an important year because it was then that the company collapsed: "Faillite de l’entreprise, qui est reprise par la région Wallonne." It was then taken over by the Wallon region.
A list of the outworker designers (créateurs externes) I have includes:
Alfred Collard, Georges Collignon, Éric Delvaux, Freddy Devillers, Pierre Dias, Samuel Herman, Laurent Jacob, Hubert Lega, Louis Leloup, Jacques Royen, Frans Van Praet, Borek Sipek, Nanny Still, Martin Szekely, Philippe Starck & Sylvie Henquin . There are some big names there.

Perhaps the "A C" refers to Alfred Collard, maître-verrier.
The other letters are intriguing. I don't think it is Sam Herman. He normally signed "S J H", I think.

      Good luck with this one.
I hope my comments may spark some further comment.

Thank you so much for the information and your view. What I shall do is take better shots and post them. I think a closer scrutiny with a loupe of the signature might help also. It is a quality piece I know. It has all the feel, texture and fluidity one would expect. Thanks again

It is possible. Vicke Lindstrand had a numbering system just like you say. I'll get the big Canon camera out later. Don't you just love the thrill of the chase? LOL Information is sketchy and I have through Japanese glass maker directories, all sorts of auction houses, museums, you name it. I have the bit between my teeth now. grrr

Hi again the vase on ebay. fr looks to be one of pieces done by Louis Leloup and Sam Herman. I've seen some other vase with the sticker you mentioned.
It seems like it came in a blue and a black version:

That was the label that was on the vase, thank for that. It does look like initials AC and the HH could be L L, HN. NH HL, take your pick!

Hi again. Thanks for the photos. My take on tem now is AC NN /1975.
Why? A handwriting style called Sütterlinschrift (Sütterlin script), or Sütterlin.
      Hope that this helps.
