I just sold this but still find it extremely beautiful. Lacquer wear is a very long process. Each piece must be carved and coated with sever layers before the makie, gold art work, can be added. Each cup takes months to make. Sakazuki are ceremonial sake cups. This depicts the story of the Rat king marry off his daughter, an old folk tale.
