A friend gave me this, as they didn't know what it was or what to do with it.
It has iron handles and is made of terracotta.
The outside has the imprint: LA COTTA inthe center and the words "La Salute e Mella Cotta" on the top and on the bottom "Marchio Deposiaio"
Also stamped in small letters is Made in Italy.
It has obviously been exposed to heat. Terra cotta part is 9" x 6 1/2" and seals quite well when closed.
Looks like an old bed warmer.
